It probably makes sense then that I am also a children’s author as I am so passionate about stories.
Ever since I was a young child, I enjoyed writing stories, poems and songs. My earliest creation that I remember is a poem I wrote about my Nanna’s Dog called Kip. I must have been under 10. The touching part to this is that when she died I found that she had saved it with all my other creatiions in a box under her bed.
However, it was only when I had children and started taking them to the library and reading books to them, I realised then that I wanted my stories out there too.
My stories flutter into my mind from anywhere, a dream, a scent on the breeze, an image I saw online or a half-heard conversation on the train. Sometimes I just start with a line and see what happens as I write so I never plot the stories. I just write and hope for the best.
“We cannot predict the value our work will provide to the world. That’s fine. It is not our job to judge our own work. It is our job to create it, to pour ourselves into it, and to master our craft as best we can.”
– James Clear
No matter what is going on in your world escaping to somewhere else with a story is a gift. I want to ensure we keep giving it. Children (and adults) are reading less and less for pleasure and I want to combat this. That’s why I started the podcast Read Learn Fly to keep on promoting literacy with children.
I titled myself a Reading Ambasedor because I am someone who actively promotes reading to and with children.
